The New Generation of Leadership for Women:
While the progress of women in America has been significant, there is much work to do to enhance the lives, opportunities and influence of women.
The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce has established a new generation of leadership for women. For decades women have sought increased access to money, opportunity and influence. And yet, as corporations and politicians have targeted women for sales and votes - we have been more "influenced" than "influential".
To take that last great step which transforms women from "influenced" to "influential" – the USWCC is implementing important strategic shifts, focusing on targeted issues, providing education and access, and creating strong connections and advocacy.
We hope you will be part of this new generation of leadership for women – be part of the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce.
Key Steps
- Focus on targeted issues and strategies that will move women from the role of the "influenced" to influential.
- Mainstream women rather than perpetuating the marginalization and isolation created by years of segregation/compartmentalization through "women's groups" and "women's programs."
- Establish a clear and true voice that speaks to government, political and corporate leadership and is not politically or corporate led, controlled or appointed.
- Bring together the existing women's groups that share our USWCC values to increase our impact, extend our capabilities and grow our leadership.
- Place women in positions of key influence in politics, government, community and business.
- Establish a return on our purchases and investments through - The USWCC New Deal for American Women: Investing in our future – creating our legacy.
- Include young women to assure reach, inclusion of their issues and continuity for the future.
- Provide access to education, services and resources needed by women for growth and opportunity without unnecessary restrictions, obligations, influences and costs.
USWCC Values
Women represent over half of all adults in the United States, own over 35% of all businesses in the U.S., purchase over 83% of all products and services, and represent over 46% of the U.S. workforce.
But, we still earn less than 80 cents on the dollar when compared to men, our businesses still generate a fraction of the revenues of male-owned businesses, and we are woefully underrepresented in leadership, government and political roles. (see more here)
The USWCC values include equal access to and representation in education, business, career, political and leadership opportunities; the protection of family friendly workspaces (including freedom from sexual harassment and violence against women); access to affordable, quality healthcare; and protection of retirement including the acknowledgment of the unique role of women in our society.
